Proper Lifting Techniques:
  • Avoid lifting in the first place.

  • Use dollies or lifts as aids if possible.

  • Don't be too proud to ask for help.

  • Keep load as close as possible to the body.

  • Keep back straight.

  • Spread feet for good balance.

  • Tighten stomach muscles and buttocks.

  • Lift with your legs, not with your back!

  • When lifting with another person, give verbal instructions clearly - say: "lift", "walk" or "unload".

Do Not:

  • Twist while lifting (move legs instead).


  • Lift above shoulders or below waist.
